Graduate Student Library Assistant (GSLA), Closing Staff


Position:The Pendergrass Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Library is seeking a graduate student library assistant (GSLA) for the 2015-2016 academic year. Interested candidates must be very dependable, able to work independently, and have a strong work ethic. Graduate students from all fields of study are welcome to apply but are reminded that the position does not automatically grant an exemption to individual school or departmental limitations on the amount of hours students can work. A GSLA may expect a continuing position if capable of meeting basic training and performance standards. Please see below for information on minimum qualifications, pay, preferred qualifications, required duties, and required hours.

Responsibilities:Assisting library patrons at the service desk.
Providing basic circulation, reference, and technological assistance.
Closing the library and performing related tasks.
Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or other staff members as needed to maintain the library and improve public services.

Requirements:Minimum Must be enrolled as a UTK graduate student with a projected graduation date no earlier than May 2016. Must be able to work 10 hours per week from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Sunday-Thursdays during the regular academic term (excluding breaks or holidays). Possess excellent communication skills for work with faculty, library staff, students, and the general public. Possess basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and related office software products. Possess a strong public service ethic and excellent customer service skills. Preferred Excellent information technology skills and an ability/interest in learning new systems and software. Experience in a library or public-service oriented professional or volunteer setting. Experience with Alma or similar library-related software and academic/research databases. Experience with statistic collation and reporting. Understanding of the Library of Congress Classification System (LCC), Superintendent of Documents Classification System (SuDoc), and basic library collection management tasks.

Salary:$12 per hour, before taxes (position does not include a tuition waiver)
