On-campus residence hall fees are here. Various meal-plans (and fees) are here. Students may encounter additional costs for books, travel, parking fees, etc. Engineering students typically spend $200-$700 per year on books. The Board of Trustees meets every July to determine the tuition and fees for the upcoming year. For more information, contact the Bursar's Office, which handles all fee payments. [Back to Top] Can I qualify for in-state tuition?The in-state residency requirements are shown here. In general, you have to prove Tennessee is your home (which you can't really do while enrolled as a student). If you currently live elsewhere, unless you are willing to defer school for a year or more to attempt to establish residency, have supporting parents in Tennessee, or can meet one of a number of exceptions, the out-of-state classification is probably unavoidable. [Back to Top] If I transfer, will my credits count?Transcript credit is determined by the department actually hosting a specific required course. So, the only sure way to gauge your hours is to apply as a transfer student, triggering the check through the departments. General courses (english, math, science) frequently do transfer, depending on quarter/semester issues and school accreditation. You should be able to get a rough idea of what might transfer by looking at our showcase curricula for each academic program. You may view the online catalog here.[Back to Top] Where Do Students Live?The University maintains both residence halls and apartments. All freshman students are required to live on campus in residence halls, unless they are married or living with a parent or guardian. You have many options in your selection of a residence hall, and you may request a roommate (be sure to apply early to get the housing and roommate assignment that you desire). Each residence hall has a hall association that plans a variety of social activities to acclimate you to University life. A variety of residence hall information is found here.There are numerous apartments in the Knoxville area available to students who wish to live off-campus. The University also maintains an on-line Classified Ad web site which may be helpful in locating student housing. [Back to Top] Can I Drive My Car on Campus?This might sound like a silly question, but it is not. Many Universities prohibit freshman from having cars on campus. At the University of Tennessee, all students may bring their cars to the campus.The office of Parking Services operates the parking on campus. Students living in residence halls are allowed to purchase a non-commuter hang tag (known as "N" lot hang tags) at the beginning of the school year, while students living off-campus purchase a commuter hang tag. Student parking fees are shown here. There are a limited number of parking spaces on the campus and it is possible that not all requests may be filled. The only graduates who have had any difficulty are those who limit themselves geographically (i.e., are determined to return home, or to a specific location).
