Why Biosystems Technology?

Biosystems Technology is the technology-based area of Environmental & Soil Sciences. Starting with a basic science foundation, these programs provide exposure to relevant technologies such as CAD, GPS/GIS, sensors and electronic information transfer. The plans of study emphasize how land use impacts our surface and subsurface water resources as well as the productivity of our soils and natural resources. Photo credit: ARS

  • Soil and water conservation
  • Land use management
  • Waste disposal
  • Reclamation of disturbed lands
  • Surveying
  • Construction
  • Engine and vehicle performance analysis
Students in the technology area of Environmental & Soil Sciences gain the practical knowledge necessary to compete for career opportunities in government, environmental and consulting firms, public health services, environmental research laboratories, and agricultural production, while also gaining the theoretical training necessary for pursuing advanced degrees in a number of environmental fields.
